The Bids Are In!!!
February 2, 2007, Lafayette CA -On February 1, at 2 pm sharp, four contractors hand delivered their bids to the Lafayette City Office to build the new Lafayette Library and Learning Center (LLLC).
Tension was high as Joanne Robbins, City Clerk, opened the envelopes and read aloud each bid.
Drum-roll please! The apparent low/winning bid came from C. Overaa & Co, based in Richmond, CA, at $29,490,000. City Staff had estimated the building construction cost at $27.8M. After factoring in a 10% contingency, the estimated building cost came in at $30.7M.
Doing some quick math, we are delighted to see the low bid is within 6% of the estimated building cost!
Overall project cost is estimated at just over $42M which includes construction, plus land acquisition, consultant costs, furnishings, administrative costs and fees, public art and an increased opening day library collection.
City Staff will review the bid for completeness, and then prepare a recommendation for City Council approval at their February 12th meeting. You may view the Bid Opening results on the City’s website, www.lovelafayette.org. Click on the Library and Learning Center tab on the left hand side of the home page.
Congratulations to our hardworking City Staff for their diligent preparation of the project plans and the extensive peer review undertaken to ensure a realistic project estimate.
Stay tuned for more news on our beloved LLLC as the construction story unfolds…plans for a special “groundbreaking ceremony” are in the works.
